Note to self re: blogging

Disclaimer: My education of late has been an education.

Meaning that in order to understand
what the fuck is going on with the world
whatever I blog about,
is in a just pursuit of
forming a personal opinion,
but somehow my opinion is fickle,
as education is the never ending story,
almost as never ending as deciding what we want and when do we want it.

I now love
http://thejuicemedia.com/

Education is the key,
and after the book is closed,
there's another to read.

Occupy or be somewhere else.

I went along to Occupy Melbourne again last night,
I got caught talking to a girl who is part of the socialist club
at Melbourne Uni. It seems so forced to be able to provide
an opinion in a lucid and informed manner, and whilst we
held a conversation for a good 10 minutes, I had to walk on
after she said she was a Marxist and did I want to read a copy
of the Socialist something or other.
I immediately scanned the front cover for the price tag, $4.

I don't know anything about Marxism, or about Socialism,
but I know that a magazine isn't going to convert my already
disposed mind about what kind of world I want to live in,
and frankly those ideas which are possibly a blueprint
for a better society, still after all these years
dichotomise the overwhelming gap between those who believe [give a shit] but don't do
and those who do but don't believe.

Meaning the people who are from the Marxist side of things,
don't actually get to a position where they can be part of the system,
because they're stuck in this out-dated group where the common people
who hear the word Marxist immediately shun it as something that didn't work then,
why would it work now.
And the others, the people who do get into the system, work at providing
for the whole rather than the individual, at any cost.

An example:
the current governments who work hard at putting on a banquet for the people,
but not catering for the vegans
who can't eat the roast potatoes
because they're cooked in animal fat.

In any case, I gave over my kitchen supplies only to be asked
"Can you put it away yourself?"
so into the kitchen I go, looking for a place for tea towels,
paper towels, fruit and utensils.
Community spirit right there!
It's one thing buying for the poor,
it's quite another to have to distribute it to them.
(In a good way).

So looking around, things had grown.
The number of hippies had certainly grown.

I left and went to Gopals and read an article by Greg Jericho called "Rallies and revolution: just keeping the nutters occupied". I felt that I needed to read both sides of the arguments.

So then off to find a toilet.. I end up in Myer.
I really need to learn where the conveniences are in the city,
because after all (Robert Doyle), humans need to wee.
It's a fact of life. Grrr!
You know we complained that we had to spend a penny in the UK,
but at least there was places where you could actually wee.
I'd quite happily use my useless 5c coins on public conveniences if they built them.

Okay weak bladder rant over.

Back to Occupy.
This time the talks were underway,
what happens if people are arrested after Robert Doyle
tries to move the camps along?
Do we offer legal support, what if they're violent?
What defines violence?
Who defines violence?

And no obviously after the pepper spray incident at #ows, we can't "trust" the police...

Oh it's all too difficult.

Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult!

Critics have accused the protests of lacking a clear message or goal, and in many cities the number of demonstrators has been relatively small.

Which is why, I'm sticking to my guns about, whatever Occupy Wall Street,
manage to do, will eventually trickle down to us at the bottom of the globe.
I'm also sticking to my guns about living within your own means,
and adhering to my list of "Ideals" in a previous post.

And then
"We'll have to come up with what we're going to say when The Queen drives past next week".
OMG.
Call me an old fashioned Brit, but please PLEASE, have some fucking respect.
The Queen is not a politician, the Royals have barely had anything to do with
actual politics for years.

I know, let's call her a fucking scumbag! (They didn't say that)
Let's curtsy and not touch her, and have some respect.

I left shortly after that to meet S for a play
Whitely's Incredible Blue: An Hallucination.

Shhhhhh.... Don't go... It was painfully painful...

And then a few drinks after,
lovely company
and then home.

Occupied.

I just filled in the missing parts on The Guardian's Interactive Map.

I also bought some kitchen items to donate.
$17.70.

Going back tonight, to see what's going on in
the land of the slightly disorganised.
Hopefully less disorganised..
I shouldn't have been so harsh.

When do we want it? Soon.

Ahh The Simpsons,
the rally of 88 won them the dental plan.

Carl: What do we want?
All: More equitable treatment at the hands of management!
Carl: When do we want it?
All: Soon!

Occupy Melbourne.
Day 3.
And a dollar short.

Can we get a consensus on anything?

Let's see...

Should we
a) have banners, regardless of what they say facing the street?
or
b) only have Occupy Melbourne banners?

I think the consensus was only Occupy Melbourne banners. (Otherwise it was considered Advertising)

Should we
a) hand out flyers to workers on their lunch breaks, regardless of their earnings or necessity to work that say "You corporate fucking scumbag"
or
b) not do that.

um.

Should we
a) go up to workers on their lunch breaks, regardless of their earnings or necessity to work to yell "Scumbag"?
or
b) not do that.

um.

What about Scab?
um.

Should we
a) collect money from sale of items regarding this movement?
or
b) not collect money?
or
c) collect donations?
or
d) have the money go to the specific organisation?
or
e) have the money go towards Occupy Melbourne?

Money Money Money..
in the 99% world.

There was one great speaker tonight, who wasn't on the megaphone.

She said
"Yelling scumbag to workers will alienate them."
"My father wears a suit in a job to provide for his family."
"We, in calling people scumbags are the 1% not the 99%."

here here.

I left fuming at their incompetence to decide on their favourite colour,
let alone forming a new movement.
Monday night obviously wasn't a great night to choose to attend.

I called my mother, she'd never heard of the Occupy Wall Street,
and she watches telly every single evening.
She noted how angry I was.

I knew that nothing would come of a sit-in in Melbourne, but I really didn't think that they'd let anyone without a fucking clue try to pass motions as they would on the fucking toilet.

Oohh that was a big one, everyone clap and do jazz hands to support the movement of shite.

Angry?
Yes.
When do we want change?
Soon.

I think The Simpsons had it right in saying soon.
Nothing is going to come of a bunch of half-wits thinking they're public speakers, what are they trying to convince us of? All we can hope for is the Occupy Wall Streeters come up with something. It's been a month, so "soon" is apt, Rome wasn't built in a day, sorry to use that adage, but we really need to focus on what we can change to subtly and gently tell the fat cats we mean business (pun intended). The fact that if anything is going to change, it's our collective attitude towards the following:

Norms:
* green energy (I have 100% green energy in my home, do you?).
* public transport/cycle/walk/alternatively look at what you drive (looking at you 4WD-in-the-city owners)
* don't eat anything your great-grandmother wouldn't call food.
* not buying that third or fourth investment property to rent out to people who can't afford a deposit to buy their own, remember council houses? When my parent's couldn't afford to buy, they rented a council house, from the fucking council, not from some rich fucker.
* cut down on meat consumption and whilst you're at it, be kind to animals.
* not buying stocks/shares/investment plans, actually nothing that doesn't give you something solid in return, unless it's a membership, a donation to a charity/organisation or a raffle at the school fete.
* not waste water.
* reduce, reuse, recycle, freecycle.

Ideals:
* free tertiary education paid for by the state (in essence, you teach yourself at university, not the other way around. You (aside from paying wages) pay for having your work critiqued and also for a bit of parchment paper with a seal.
* health care and dental paid for by the state.
* green power only.
* permaculture.

It's idiotic to imagine that a group of stupid fucks are going to bring down the bankers, which in turn will bring down the government to a level where it actually is for the people not for the bankers, which in turn will bring genuine revenue and resources back to the people.

Furiocity.
Every action you make is a decision for our collective future.
When can we do it?

You guessed it.

Don't give a fuck?
Well we'll all be dead soon.
And then the planet can rejuvenate.

Zeitgeist Movement - Watching is compulsory.

Watching these made a lot of things click into place
in my brain.
I think a resource based world is an awesome idea,
but I doubt that it will become a reality in my lifetime.

I think we'll have to actually sink before we change as a whole.

Apparently I'm going for dinner and then to Occupy Melbourne
tonight, it's not going to change anything.
It's going to show that a lot of people
can't do anything other than sit on the street.
Is it that easy to close your bank accounts with the big banks?
Not when you owe debt.

However, remaining positive.. if I'm asked why I'm there?

- because I'm renting someone's investment property as I want an inner-city lifestyle but can't afford to own it. (And moreover don't want to spend the next 30 years paying 3 times the amount of the initial loan).
and
- because my trust fund depleted due to the stock market.
Thanks Nan, but you should have put it under your mattress.
and
- because I don't own a car, because I don't eat meat, because I don't live in a house that's too big for me, because I'm not a huge consumer, because if I have money I spend it on whoever I'm with, rather than save it. Because I have debt. Because I can crochet, and maybe that'll become my barter for food one day.

How far away is tomorrow?

Watch this video first.
OMG this is a mind fuck and a half.
So let me get this...

The more time it takes to get somewhere, the less distance you've had to travel.

But the less time it takes to get somewhere, the more distance you've had to travel.
Because you're making up for the less time, by traveling at a quicker pace to get to the place it would have taken more time to get to.

To me it seems that they cancel each other out, and so tomorrow is now.

Or is it that time is now?

What time is is?
It's now.

It's always fucking now.

Friday, 30 September 2011

Being awesome just doesn't cut it anymore.

This is actually a big fat lie.
I haven't cried.
Maybe I really can't.
Or maybe it just doesn't fucking matter.

I didn't promise you a rose garden...

I turned 31 a while ago.
I think my nan said it well with "you're an old woman now"...
But these clocks...make me appreciate being an old woman.

Unchartered Waters

I cancelled my painting subject this morning,
it was all getting too much for me.
So now I only have Arguments101 (critical thinking) to do this term.

And you know what,
as soon as I stopped worrying about art work,
I did some.
The only thing that doing a BArt (Fine Art) has taught me so far,
is that I'm more creative without it.
Do I really need to finish my last 8 subjects????
Do I?
Fortune Tellers.. any answers?
Front cover - complete with obligatory coffee ring.

Back cover
Finally got started on my Sketchbook Project 2012 submission.
Front and back pages on the theme Unchartered Waters.

34 more pages to go,
I have until 31st January 2012 to submit it,
then it gets scanned into an online viewable thing
and goes on tour!

So I can show you the way

Phone conversation with my nan.

- Hello, it's me.
Oh hello, how are you?
I've had a phone call from your sister this week, I nearly fell on the floor!
Can you believe it?  I couldn't, I was in shock.
And your mother rang, you should ring your mother at least once a week, if not twice.
You only have one mother.
- Yeah I know, I do.
Your Aunt and cousin are coming up tomorrow, they're supposed to come tonight.
Do you have Facebook? Have you seen her modelling photos?  She's doing them in the buff now.
(I'm pretty sure she said that!) She's got a contract in Manchester.
- Wow, that sounds great.
Yeah but she has to finish her college first, that's two years and she's only 16 almost 17.
(Me thinking.. nude photos?  Doubt it).
You should ring me more often.
I'll be dead soon.
When are you coming to see me?
- After I finish my course.
I'll be dead by then, I might be gone tomorrow.
You never know, when.
So when you finish your course,
you'll come over?
- Yeah
You can come and live with me then.
Thanks for calling.
I appreciate it.
Are you courting yet?
- No
What happened with the dentist?
- That ended a while ago.
How old are you now?
- 31.
31! You're an old woman!
31 and I'm 21.
- Ha, then I'll be dead before you.
No you won't,
and I need to go first so I can show you the way.

Is that not the loveliest thing to say?!
Bless her.

Rule #1 of Hula Hoop club

Don't hula hoop and drink beer when you're actually ill.

It'll make you throw up.

In my madness
I did actually learn that I could hula hoop
for about 10 seconds around my foot.
Go me!

And I learnt how to do the helicopter
in a small space.
Go me!

How does one practice in public (in a park)
without people like me laughing at them?

Case in point:
Southern Cross train station one wintery Friday night
there was a guy doing the Goblin King crystal ball thing...

Working on it. 2. My work life balance.

K at work lent me a book last week,
to read, and summarise for her.

The book is called
Summer Pierre.

Normally these kinds of books
are great for passive reading,
colourful, fun and enticing
but not really of substance.

However, being given the task of summarising,
I feel I have to give it a good go..

I'm only a little way through,
but already I've discovered
William Carlos Williams,
a doctor who wrote beat poetry on prescription pads,
and was part of the imagism movement.

In which poetry is written to describe
only what is necessary.
(See below post Poem for Monday).
I wrote this poem to see if I could,
it took all of two minutes.
And I love it.

Which reminds me of the inspiration talked about in
Elizabeth Gilbert's Ted Talk on Nurturing Creativity,
this is absolutely brilliant, I highly recommend viewing it.

Back to the book,
we have to go to work everyday,
end of.
So in having to go to work everyday,
unless it's a job that you absolutely hate,
which dispirits you, or exhausts you to the point
where you can't even look forward to 5pm,
what does it offer you?

Pierre asks us to make a list of the benefits.

My job provides for me the following:

1. Cheapest flat in ideal location filled with my favourite things, 40 minute walk to work
2. Expensive cat food for the cat (obviously)
3. Internet access, pens, paper, awful coffee - for free!
4. The ability despite my inability to study during the day
5. Ability to listen to music, watch youtube, Ted talks and sometimes entire films at my desk
6. Sick leave, mental health days, holidays - that I never take due to first two absence types
7. Friendship with some truly golden people
8. Phone calls and postage to my family and friends - for free!
9. A decent salary so I can afford to buy things I don't need (I bought a vacuum cleaner online today)
(I do need a new vacuum cleaner)
10. Feedback from my colleagues on my creative attempts, stories, laughter, shared frustrations,
a sense of belonging and being needed.

and finally
11.  Discussions with K on just how sexy Future Simon is, which Doctor is the hottest (Matt Smith), little skits from Catherine Tate and passing notes over the partition.

I'm only a tincy bit way through the book,
and already I feel better about being at work.

Hell, I'm writing this post at work,
so it ain't all bad,
and too be honest if I was mega rich and
didn't need to work,
just lived the artist's life
I wouldn't get out of bed.

P.S. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS NEW RECEIPT DESIGN?
BRILLIANT
Swiss Miss

A poem for Monday.

The boss, she yells across the room.

The question goes unheard
over whiz and
hum
of the fax machine.

I put my hand up
to silence her
until
I am close enough.

Speak to me now,
of administrative query
whilst
I feign enthralment politely.

Blanket #2

This one's for me, with pattern...
woo.

Monday, 5 September 2011

Blanket for Len

Finally finished Len's granny square blanket after just over 4 months!
This was in-between working full-time and studying ...
and also waiting for the second lot of wool to arrive.

The wool is from the Bendigo Woolen Mills.
And I just hope that the sheep are well looked after.
Will investigate.

It's so hard to take a decent photo with Melbourne's light.

I have to order wool for Ner's blanket next ...
She wants yellow..  just bought the wool,
it's actually cotton as I recently saw a documentary
about merino wool and the sheep who live in cages
their whole lives, so as not to get their wool dirty.
Sorry this animal mis-treatment thing is really becoming an obsession with me.
I'm changing my ways for the better.

I'm still also working on another (non-granny square) blanket for myself,
which I think will take a good year or so...
Only because it's for me and there's no pressure!

I'll take a photo on a good light day as
it's got a lovely little pattern through it.

Got M checking up on me.
Bye!

Working on it. 1. My attitude.

Attitude.
My attitude stinks.
1. "Go fuck yourself." is not the appropriate response to every situation in life.

Sometimes...

all it takes for me to fall in love is
just one sentence.

I am so looking forward to brushing my teeth now!

Saturday, 20 August 2011

Yesterday don't matter if it's gone.

It's taken more than 3 years to fill this book up.
2007 mustn't have been a big year,  a trip to Japan,  a move to Melb... Not enough!

Thanks, nothing you do is ever stupid spotty... (my sister was having doubts, because I was the only one in the family who thought it was a great idea).  Christmas 2007 Len had chickenpox!!

My family like to buy me those gift card things - what do I do with them???!

A nice fat book.

Modest Mouse, Luka Bloom and no entry to Melbourne Uni.

Michael and some kitties.

Some more kitties.

From a fairy book at fArt class.

More kitties, a bird and a ship.

Drawings from my year 1 kidlets.

Comic - "Oooww, what are you a vampire?" "Wooooaaahhh" "That's a zombie!"
Clap your hands say yeah!
Science of Sleep film.

In Japan I wore fake blue eyes.

My first gig in Melbourne 7th August 2007 - Arctic Monkeys.

Kitson.

Sigur Ros 2007

Andrew W K loves me.

Falls Festival - was becoming a New Years tradition...

Kitson and Modest Mouse.

An evening with the Eels.
It's a shame Greg didn't let me backstage.

Melb International Animation Festival.

Sigur Ros 2008 and random things.

I was going to do a post-it note drawing everyday, didn't last more than 4 days obviously...

Wicked, Billy Elliot, Russel Kane and The Pixies!

Japan.

Animation Festival, Chicago, Billy Twinkle.

Comedy, trip to Sydney to see Jimmy Eat World for Len's birthday.

Jarvis Cocker, The Eels and comedy.

Pulp, The Man in Black, Social Distortion (awesome).

The proof of my tattoo, I preferred it in red, but my tattooist wanted it to be coloured.

The envelope where I got my tattoo from.

Me in a photo booth in Paris holding a mini Tour Eiffel.
Travelling alone means you don't get photos of yourself very often.
This book is finally finished,
I feel so pleased...
It's funny but my family don't know I have a blog,
despite their photos all over it.
Shhhhhh, I like to keep things to myself!

Keeping scrapbooks of things makes me think
of Andy Warhols Time Capsules.
One day all this crap will be so pleasing to look back on.

Friday, 19 August 2011

You'll never be lonely with a good book!

The first four - Read.
The last pile - Unread.

Update: Sunday - Almost all the books in this photo have just exploded across the room.
My living room now looks like March in Japan.
I'm going to take a photo and call it "After the bookquake".

I got new shoes today and they're fucking brilliant.

A new favourite.

And now I'm off to the Tofu Palace for an early birthday dinner. <3
